I am researching the above families both separately and together. John Stafford Waters b. 1845 Durham also a brother William. I have no idea who their parents were. I know Joihn married Sarah Jane Hore, don't know when but their son William was born in 1867 and Eleanor b. 1875. Hi Lyn I think I have links to these families but not everything quite ties up. On the 1871 census I have a John and Eleanor Waters living with Eleanor's widowed mother Mary Ann Hore (nee Drummond). Also with them is Eleanor's younger sister Sarah and their son William age 1 year. In the September Qtr 1869 marriage index Eleanor Ann Hore and John Stafford Waters are listed on the same page (19b 658) On the 1881 census John S Waters wife is down as Sarah, so did Eleanor die and John marry her sister? I was under the impression that a marriage between a man and his wife's sister was regarded as incest. Can anyone confirm this? Mary Ann Hore was the daughter of James Drummond and Mary Husband. She married William Hoar in 1840, all I know about William is that he was a mariner and his father was called John, I think William died in 1858. I have been searching for William and Mary Ann Hoar on the 1861 census as Mary Ann is the sister of my ggg grandfather James Drummond. James' mother died when he was 2 years old and in 1851 he was living with his grandparents James & Mary Drummond but he was not with them in 1861. I have not had any luck with the 1861 so far but I will have a look over the next few weeks to see if I can find any trace of them on the 1851.
