    3. Hi Sarah, Welcome to the list, It was interesting reading about your Great Grandparents cycling back to Sunderland from down south, where did they cycle from? My Dad Samuel Ridley (born 8th November 1911) often told me stories about he and is friends cycling trips, even though they had nothing. He told me that they cycled from Sunderland to Blackpool which is a fair distance and that the bikes used to have cane wheels for lightness but could be a disaster if they broke. I think they were a hardier bunch than we are today.
