Hi Mark, The Gibson's Alms Houses (aka Mowbray Almshouses), are situated in Church Lane, The Green, Bishopwearmouth. They were founded by the will of Jane Gibson, the widow of a prominent merchant, in 1725, for the reception of "twelve decayed old women who have been in better circumstances", and were originally known as the "Hospital House". The houses were rebuilt in 1863 for Elizabeth Gray Mowbray, after the Mowbray family inherited responsibility for their administration, and extensively renovated in 1983.
