I've been there and have photos and paintings of Great-grandfathers Smithy, but no one there has the faintest recollection of a street or lane known as "Jockey Row." There was a famous race course just south of the village, but I can't recall it's name ... Getting old! Malton is a long way from Sunderland! No doubt you would get more local knowledge from one of the Yorkshire-based lists, but I can tell you that Malton, and its "twin town" of Norton, on the south side of the river, are still major centres of horse racing, with several training stables being located there. It is one of the few places where there are road signs specifically warning drivers to look out for race-horses! I am also told that the Stable Lads' Club is one of the main social centres of the town(s). Geoff Nicholson
