Hi, I have found a ancestor at premises Commercial House Ferry Boat Landing ,who would live in these premises would they be seamen ? or commercial travellers this was about 1911 Have found Ferry Boat round about Hylton ,but cannot come up with Commercial House Any help would be very welcome Thank you Doris

    3. Hi Doris, Can you give more details about the source of your information? The Commercial Hotel in South Hylton was just a pub, in 1901 there were no 'guests' just the landlord Thomas Hunter and his family. The same goes for the Commercial Inn, Ferry Boat Landing, Low Street, there was only the land lady and her family. There are no places called Commercial House that I can find.     3. The Golden Lion, Lion Place, Ferryboat Row, South Hylton, built about 1910, and had "Accommodation for cyclists and boating parties". This was right on the ferry boat landing.     3. Hi Doris, If you go to http://www.east-durham.co.uk/sunderland/eastend/pages/image/imagepage32.html you can see a photo of Bodlewell Lane, Ferry Steps on Feb 28th 1884. The Commercial Inn is to the left of the steps.
