    1. [ENG-DUR-SUNDERLAND] Re Sans Street Methodist Mission

    3. Hi, Listers I recently had some advice re Sans Street Methodist Mission which turned out (to my surprise, though I can't say why) to be in Bishopwearmouth. That led me to rummage for a Gavel(?), one of those things used to lay ceremonial cornerstones - don't know their name. It's ebony, with ornate silver mountings, totally useless as a practical tool. On its face is an ornamental silver plaque inscribed thus: *Presented to Ald Wm Bruce J.P. on the occasion of the Laying of the FOUNDATION STONES of the NEW SANS STREET MISSION HALLS* *Aug 20^th 1902 _____* ** *W. & T.R. Milburn **Architects* I'm submitting this in case it may be of interest to any Lister or researcher. I haven't photographed it, but I could if anyone is interested. Bruce Dodd Ottawa

    3. The parish boundary between Bishopwearmouth and Sunderland Parishes ran down the centre of Sans Street. The Mission Hall was on the west side of Sans Street and was therefore in Bishopwearmouth Parish.
