    3. Hi Stan You mentioned that "In 1948 The ambulance office was situated temporarily in the grounds of the General Hospital, Chester Road. The staff consisted of an Ambulance Officer, twenty one drivers/attendants, with nine ambulances and three sitting cars." Prior to this the former ambulance station was located at "Eden Vale Garage" on Eden Vale Road (Source: County Borough of Sunderland NHS Act 1946, Amended proposals for carrying out duties - Ambulance Service) I'm not sure where exactly the garage was, if it was also a commerical garage or just used for ambulance services or indeed if the building is still there Rob

    3. Hi Rob, Eden Vale was the Corporation Yard at that time, off Durham Road. If you put the post code SR47LP in search at http://gis.durham.gov.uk/website/interMAP/viewer.htm you can see it marked on the 1950 map.
