Hello Stan Thanks very much for your helpful reply. Interesting to hear that the Hall was located on Calver Street. I suppose this was named after Captain Edward Killwick Calver, RN, who was instrumental in establishing the Hall and the later Monkwearmouth and Southwick Dispensary. He seems to have been an interesting character who lived in Southwick for many years and married a Sunderland girl. His obituary is on the ICE Virtual Library site (currently not functioning) but makes no reference to his time in Sunderland or Southwick. I'd be intrigued to learn more. I wonder if you or any of the other listers may know more? Rob
