    1. [SUNDERLAND] Jameson - Scotland to Eng to ? 1850 to today
    2. Barbara P Jameson
    3. We are looking for descendants of Robert Andrew JAMESON (1832 -1872 b Yell, SHI, SCT d Sunderland, Eng) and Janet Margaret Ingram THOMASON (1831-1907 b Fetlar, SHI, SCT d MA, USA) Jane and Robert moved to Sunderland about 1860-1861. Their children were Robert Andrew, Mary, Thomas T, Charles, William and James John. The first two were born in the Shetlands and the others in Monkwearmouth, Sunderland. Thomas, James and Jane came to the US between 1881 and 1886 and lived in Massachusetts. Thomas was my husband's grandfather. We think William may have come to the US too. We have lots of information on Thomas' and James' families. We know Robert Andrew went by Andrew and we may have found him in the 1891 census in Middlesbrough with wife Fanny C (born Hants. Woolston ?)and these children:Andrew R, George W, Amelia, James, Alfred and Charles F. Family tales tell us that they had many, many more children and stayed in England. We don't know what happened to Mary, but think she was a housemaid in Scotland in the 1881 census. There must be many, many descendants of this family around somewhere, and we hope to be able to find them ! Barbara Jameson marksnana@juno.com or bpjameson@adelphia.net

    1. [SUNDERLAND] Re-Listing Interest: Patrick GOVERS
    2. Andy Nurse
    3. Hi List, After a bit of a break from the mailing lists I would like to list my interests in the Durham area. I am looking for information from any of the census from 1871 backwards for Patrick GOVERS who married Sarah CONNOR in the 4th quarter of 1854; he was born about 1840 and died before the 1881 census. I believe that John GOVERS is shown as Patrick’s father on the marriage certificate. The only child that I am aware of is John who was born on the 11th of June 1862 in Sunderland and for some reason, only known to the registrar, his surname on the birth certificate was entered as GOVIS instead of GOVERS. Any information on Patrick or Sarah would be greatly appreciated. Regards, Andy Nurse in the land of Oz --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. 3. Hi Everyone I am a Co-ordinator for the Freecensus Project and look after the Durham area. I am just putting a message on the mailing list to let you know of the Freecen project and its new free to view and searchable website. The transcriptions uploaded cover quite a few parts of the country, including some for Scotland and also cover various years depending on the area. Unfortunately we have none on the website for Durham at the moment but I am in the process of validating a piece for Easington 1891 and we also have 3 others awaiting checking. So, hopefully in the next 2 weeks the Easington one will be on the website. If anyone would like further information on what is involved to join this very worthwhile project then please do contact me 'off list' and I will get back to you asap. I would also like to point out that Rootsweb fully endorse this project and they provide us with the webpages for the transcriptions.
