    3. Tim Thank you for confirming what I only suspected was my husband's direct ancestors James Robson and Isabella Tim. I know this couple married in Sunderland 20 January 1828. From Isabella Robson's marriage certificate I knew her father was a mariner. Kind regards and happy hunting Doris

    3. Doris, I managed to get back to our local FHS yesterday afternoon but, as I expected, there is little more to be seen about Isabella Robson and her family than what is shown in the IGI. The "full" details recorded on film 0471924 are : SURNAME DATE NAME REL ROBSON BRN 6 AUG 1830 ISABELLA D PARENTS AND OTHER DATA JAMES ROBSON AND ISABEL TIM (F) MARINER Since I have a puzzle arising from the "other data" shown about one of my other families of interest on that film, I will be ordering the relevant films of the parish register pages themselves (as opposed to the computer output). If I can glean anything more about your Isabella, I will let you know. 3. Good morning Lee I too ave a HENDERSON interest in Sunderland. I am looking for my maternal grandfather's natural father John TURNER after 1881. John's mother Mary TURNS married Robert HENDERSON July 10, 1859. John was born March 8, 1861 in Sunderland. His mother remarried, William TURNER, February 2, 1868 at the Parish Church, Holy Trinity South Shields. My grandfather was born Jan. 1, 1880 at Felling to John TURNER and Sarah BRANCH but was raised by his grandmother Mary (nee TURNS formerly HENDERSON) Turner and John's stepfather William TURNER. I have not been able to figure out John after the 1881 census where he appears with his son actually seeming to be a younger brother. If anyone searching Durham registers or the like between 1881 and 1891 should happen to come across a marriage registration for John TURNER I'd love to hear from you. John's father could be listed as Robert HENDERSON, Blacksmith or more likely William TURNER, Joiner. I know this is the proverbial needle in a haystack but stranger things have happened. I also have two married John TURNERs, age 30 in 1891, both born Sunderland but I can't figure whichif either is my John HENDERSON Thanks and have a great day. Some additional information appears below. Murray Jones Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada My maternal grandfather William TURNER was born John Felix BRANCH and his birth was registered at Gateshead, Co. Durham, England, January 1, 1880. His mother was Sarah BRANCH with Mary (her stepmother?) present. Father was not listed on registration. He was baptized 29 April, 1881 at Hebburn St. Cuthberts, son of John Henderson TURNER and Sarah (last name not listed). The 1881 British Census for 5 John Street Hebburn gives: Marr Age Sex Birthplace William TURNER M 38 M Warkworth, Durham, England Rel: Head Occ: Foreman Joiner Mary TURNER* M 42 F N Shields, Durham, England Rel: Wife John TURNER U 20 M SUNDERLAND Rel: Son Occ: Lab Annie TURNER U 15 F SUNDERLAND Rel: Daur Occ: Milliner William BRANCH* * U 1 M Felling Rel: Son *Formerly Mary HENDERSON (nee TURNS). John and Annie are her children from her previous marriage to Robert HENDERSON. **Born John Felix BRANCH, Jan 1/ 1880 Bridge Street Felling, he was "adopted" by his grandparents and raised as theirs and renamed William TURNER. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Lee Henderson" <leehenderson_888@hotmail.com> To: <ENG-DUR-SUNDERLAND-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, October 17, 2004 5:01 AM > Henderson,.................................

    3. Doris, Although in my innocence/ignorance I thought that the film that I had ordered would have images of the actual pages of the Sunderland Parish Church Register of Christenings, that was totally incorrect. That order was placed during my first visit to our local FHS (I have still only been there 4 times), and I blindly accepted the suggestions of one of the local volunteers as to what film I should order. I really had no clue as to the real contents of any of the various films/fiches that we found on the catalogue. In fact, Film 0471924 is described in the catalogue as "Computer printout of Sunderland, Durham, England". The title details go further to explain that it was "extracted for the controlled extraction program..." In other words (as I understand it) every person listed in that computer output should be recorded in the IGI. Certainly, since returning from the FHS today, I have found all of the children of "our" Henry Robson and Ann Henderson that I identified on the film, plus one that I must have overlooked when I scanned the film. Your "Isabella Robson" is shown on the IGI as "Isabel Robson, Born 26 August 1830, Daughter of James Robson and Isabel Tim". Dates of births and christenings are recorded separately. From the records that I noted down yesterday and today it would seem that very few christenings were recorded after the very early 1800s. The only further information that might perhaps be shown on the film would be father's occupation, and parents' places of birth. This information is shown on a minority of the records that I looked at. An even smaller minority also lists siblings of the newborn child. That film is due to be sent back to Utah in four days time, and I will be unable to get to the FHS until Tuesday, but will see if I can add anything to Isabella's info from the IGI. As for any connection between "your" James Robson and "our" Henry - who knows? I have not yet managed to identify where/when Henry was born, let alone who his parents were. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Ernest Jones" <erniej@compuserve.com> To: <ENG-DUR-SUNDERLAND-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, October 15, 2004 8:58 PM Subject: RE: [genealogy] Re: [SUNDERLAND] LDS film 0471924 - Sunderland Parish Records - Christenings 1719 - 1836. > Hello Tim > > If you still have the Sunderland Parish Records could you look up Isabella > Robson christened 26 August 1830, father James Robson > mother ?Isabella ?Timm. 3. HI, George (or Margaret ??), Thanks for your input. I might yet wish to take you up on your implicit offer, but have not yet got to that stage. My reason for looking at the Sunderland Parish Church register (or at least, the index thereto) was fairly unscientific. A few months ago I had ordered the film of Marriages at the same church, to check on an IGI entry regarding the marriage of one of my ggg-grandparent-in-law couples. (Henry Robson to Ann Jones, married at Sunderland, 30 November 1818). At the time of ordering, it just seemed a good idea to order the film of Christenings at the same time. So I am now 'trawling' though the film, noting all births/christenings of every surname in my (fairly short) list of surnames of potential interest. I fear that 'real' genealogists would consider such an approach to be quite primitive ("blunderbuss search" ?). 3. Stan, Thanks for that. So far I have only been looking for names "equal to or less than" Sharp, so I wasn't inconvenienced (merely puzzled). However, if our ongoing research indicates that I or my wife have a ZZYMONS (that is the extreme in the current Melbourne phone directory !) in our ancestry, then I will know what to ask for. 3. Our local FHS recently got a copy of this film for me to view. I had not realised that it would actually be a film of an index rather than the original pages, but for a raw newbie like myself, that makes it so much easier to find names of interest, so I have no problem with that. (I hope that all purists were reading that with their eyes shut :-)). What does puzzle me is that the film ends midway down one page of the index, within a 'Taylor' record. This is not just a matter of a broken film, since a short distance further along the film is an image showing "End". So, had I wished to hunt for Tregears, Tyndals, Upstones, Wrights, Youngs, etc. I would now be greatly frustrated. Have others who have viewed that film found the same thing, or was I just unlucky with the copy that was sent to us? Tim S.

It is a great site and gives a lot of information on the person, where, when, regiment, parents, etc.. It also makes tragic reading as things like "only son of Mrs. Smith, widow, of ....." come up.
