You could join the RootsWeb DUR-NBL list or the Northumbria list. It is just as well you mentioned Northumberland, but are you sure it is the Sunderland in Northumberland? North Sunderland comes in the Parish of Bambrough, see _http://www.genuki.bpears.org.uk/NBL/Bamburgh/ChurchRecords.html_ (http://www.genuki.bpears.org.uk/NBL/Bamburgh/ChurchRecords.html) Regards Stan Mapstone www.mapstone.org
Hi Jennifer If this is Peter and family in 1901 then Peter born in Durham. Herrington doesn't seem to be aplace but maybe a mistranscription of Merrington or maybe even Heighington. Perhaps Stan Mapstone could help with the geography. Hope this helps. Hello, I have been on the Sunderland list for some time now, hoping for a bite on one person who is eluding me. However, I have found nothing that is related to my family yet. So I thought perhaps someone else might be waiting as I have been and I would like to put out an APB for my missing Great-great grandfather. His name is James (or possibly John) William "Peter" Horn. He is said to be born 1868 and married Rose Baker in Sunderland, Northumberland April 13 1891. He was a soldier and came from a family with 9 sisters. Once he married Rose (a gypsy) he was disowned. He and Rose are said to have come to Canada in 1904, landing in Montreal. I would appreciate any help or information anyone can give me on how to find him in Sunderland. Most sincerely, Jennifer Schack
Hello, List Would anyone have access to the Sunderland Echo on or about 17 Dec. 1940? If so, I would greatly appreciate a look-up of the obit for my great-grandmother, Sarah Jane Wilson, nee Hall, wife of George Wilson. Debbie in Southern Ontario
Hello I wonder if someone can help solve a problem I have concerning William Wigham Rackstraw. My grandfather had a brother named William Wigham Rackstraw who was born in 1910 but died soon afterwards. However there was another William Wigham Rackstraw born in 1906 and was in killed at Hylton Colliery Coal Mine 1959 aged 53. Can anybody help me to find out who this other William was. He is not a brother of my grandfather but perhaps a cousin. The details I have are as follows: 1. William Wigham Rackstraw - born 4 Jan 1910 Sunderland died as a baby, son of James Lincoln Rackstraw and Elizabeth Gibson. He is my grandfather's brother. refer: Births March 1910 William Wigham Rackstraw Sunderland 10a 696 2 William Wigham Rackstraw - born about 1906, killed at Hylton Colliery Coal Mine 1959 aged 53. refer: Births June 1906 - William Wigham Rackstraw Sunderland 10a 742 Any help would be very much appreciated. Thank you Tony Rackstraw
-----Original Message----- From: trenoweth Subject: [SUNDERLAND] William Wigham Rackstraw Hi Tony Not sure how far I can help but I am researching the LINCOLN surname in Sunderland. I have today collected a copy of a baptism record for Mary Jane LINCOLN dated 29 Oct 1883 and her parents were William Wigham Rackstraw & Mary Jane LINCOLN. Mary Jane was the daughter of James LINCOLN & Jean Grace Davie. Mary also had a sister named Agnes who married John Dinsdale Rackstraw. I have further information on RACKSTRAW. Maybe best if you contact me direct. Cheers Sue Sunderland
On Free BMD there is a death Sep 1870 quarter for Helen Eliza Bishop age 41. My question is can anyone lay claim to her so that I don't buy another incorrect certificate? My Helen Bishop has never been known to my knowledge to have a middle name. Last found living Rochester, Kent where her son Thomas George Bishop was born 1859. She and the rest of the family are unaccounted for in the 1861 census of Kent, Durham & IOW areas. Helen's husband remarried in 1874 a widow (IOW) Futher details: Helen Brown born Coxhoe, County Durham 1828 to Stephen & Elizabeth Brown. Any help would be appreciated. A long standing puzzle. If a marriage in February of 1837 is listed at Gateshead Fell, would this be Gateshead Fell St Johns? Would anyone know from where might I get a copy of the specific record? Thanks, Ron Hancock Toronto, Canada

Hello I am new to this list. I am searching for information on the Roxby and Hillam families. I know that a lot of my ancestors hailed from the Seaham and also the Houghton areas. Looking esp for info on Henry Gustard Roxby and ancestors. Henry was born in 1878 in New Seaham. Also for ancestors of Ena May Hillam, born in Seaham in 1906. F Proud

Would SKS have access to the 1851, or preferably, 1861 census? I am trying to confirm details of the family of Joseph Vincent who was born in Sunderland some time before 5 Feb, 1845. His parents were John (minister and fruit merchant?) and Eliza. If also possible, I would love similar information on the family of his wife, Sarah Jane Johnson, who was born 5 Jan, 1843 in Newcastle upon Tyne. Her parents were William (draper) and Sarah. This couple was married in Newcastle on 7 Feb 1866, so a later census is not useful. Thanks. Ron Hancock Toronto, Canada
I have a JAMES EDWARD ATESS in my family. He died in Tasmania in 1898 in a mining accident. His place of birth on his marriage certificate is Sunnybrow, Durham. He was a widower. ATESS appears to be very much a Durham name. Searching the 1901 Census, I could not find any anywhere else! He was born c 1856 if his age at marriage and death are correct on the certificates. So far, I cannot find it. Any help would be appreciated. Thankyou..............Shirley (Australia)
I am researching both the EDMONDS and CASTLE families from Brandeburton and Beverley. My Great Grandmother was Sarah Sophia CASTLE b. 1861 and I would love to find someone else researching the same family. Her parents were Hannah Edmonds and Francis Castle but know very little about them, also I think Sarah had at least one brother named Henry Edmond. Regards Lyn Tregilgas South Australia
