    3. Hi Folks wonder if someone can help. A friend of mine has a marriage certificate that just states Sunderland RC Chapel. She has checked St Benets and St Mary's RC Churches but no sign of the couple. It is before St Hilda's was opened. I wonder - does anyone know which church this certificate might relate to. Many thanks Diane R --------------------------------- ALL-NEW Yahoo! Messenger - all new features - even more fun!

    3. Hello All I am just wondering about the following, while search for my Gt,Gt,Grandfather who name is John Robson who says on the 1861 Census he was born in Bishopwearmouth I checked the Sunderland Birth Reistrations and found that there was not a single John Robson Birth Registered in Sunderland during the years of 1839 and 1840 and one in 1838 and one entry in 1841 both of which are not my line. With John Robson being such a common name in this area is it possible that some birth registrations although recorded have bee missed off the St Catherines Index. Regards Allan Robson

You can enlarge it, and may perhaps find the street that you are looking for. You can also purchase a hard copy of the map from that site. Just a wild guess - could your address be Silksworth Row, abbreviated as "S'worth Row" to fit into the available space on the certificate? In the past I have found the registrars at Sunderland can be very helpful. You may find that an email to them, asking if they could examine the original certificate for you, could solve your puzzles. 3. I am puzzled!! In the 1871 census Ihave John Costello ,born London aged 36, Equestrian Jester , lodging 24, Regent Street, Wigan with Ellen Costello, Wife ,Born Gloucester, Aged24, and Ada Clementine Costello,Daughter aged 6mnths born in Scarborough. In the 1881 census I have John Costello, born London, aged 46,Equestrian lodging 21, Burlington Street, Ashton Under Lyne, Lancashire with Ellen Costello,Wife,aged22 ,born Hereford (Gloucs?) and Mary Jane Costello,Daughter, aged 10, born Scarborough. I have found Ada Clementine vol.9d page 307 and a Mary Jane vol.9d 305 both born in Scarborough in 1870 - registered in dec qtr. Where was Mary Jane in 1871 and where was Ada Clementine in 1881? Was an Equestrian Jester someone who made people laugh while riding a horse? Any ideas anyone? Regards Pam

    3. For Stan, I keep looking at the VCH site but there seems to be nothing more on the Sunderland section. Best Regards David Rowntree -----Original Message----- From: Stanmapstone@aol.com [mailto:Stanmapstone@aol.com] Sent: Sunday, 22 August 2004 9:39 PM To: ENG-DUR-SUNDERLAND-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [SUNDERLAND] Database of Ancestors in Sunderland In the September issue of Family Tree Magazine is a letter from Ken Coleman stating that he has a database of the baptisms, marriages and burials, covering 1567-1812 for the parishes of Monkwearmouth and Bishopwearmouth including Sunderland, amounting to over 100,000 entries. He is hoping that the database may be completed and put online to coincide with the Victoria County History launch of the History of Sunderland. If you send him written enquiries with a SAE, he will sweep his database. There is no search fee but donations to cover administration costs will be appreciated. I will send his address to anyone interested, as I am reluctant to put it on the list without his permission.. I believe her father was born in Rothbury Northumberland abt 1819. Does anyone have access to the 1851 or 1861 census for Sunderland - which should show the family? I am particularly interested in the names dates and places of birth of the various family members. John

    3. Charles - a Wagon Rider was often employed by a colliery to work on the colliery railway, often a rope-hauled one working on an incline. His job was to ride on the last wagon that was being hauled up the incline to see that the wagons remained on the track. Alan Vickers.
