    3. Hello All, I need some help in identifying a hamlet. I have John Genge(son of Rev. Thomas Genge of Piddletown) living in the late 15-1600's at Shilvehampton and having owned much property at Portesham and Abbotsbury Shilvehampton is said to have had manorial status in those days. trouble is I cannot find this place listed. It is said to be south-east of Portesham Any help apppreciated Louise

    3. Hello Louise Shilvinghampton (one of its various spellings) was a manor and a hamlet within the parish of Portesham, bording on to the parish of Chickerell. On a modern map it is just above the B3157 road running along the coast from Weymouth to Bridport, just to the left of Chickerell. Hope that helps.
