Those of you researching Weymouth ancestry or local history have probably come across Maureen Attwooll, former Weymouth Librarian, local history expert and author of many local books. If so you may be interested to know that Maureen has just published a new book, co-authored with another local and military historian, Colin Pomeroy. It is called Weymouth Century and it compares 70 old photos of Weymouth and district with photographs taken over the last year. Some places have changed out of all recognition and others are comfortingly similar. The local paper has done a spread on it this weekend and the book is available in Weymouth - so I can recommend it personally. The book is published by Halsgrove and although I am not on line to check the URL as I write this, they do have a website - try a search on Halsgrove+Dorset and you should find it. I would think they would have credit card ordering facilities. I will try and find out and get back to you on this. Those of you who are local to Dorset may be interested to know that Maureen and Colin will be signing copies of the book in W.H.Smiths, Weymouth between 11am-1pm on Saturday October 4th.
