    1. Re: [DOR-LIFE] CURTIS FAMILY
    2. Debby Rose
    3. My Great, Great Grandfather, Robert Harris used to walk his family across the fields and hills from Holworth on the coast in the parish of Owermoigne, to Poxwell church every Sunday morning. He worked on the watercress patches in the north of Owermoigne and visited his family at Ridgeway, Upwey regularly. Poor soul fell in a watercress patch and died of pneumonia! Transport didn't always pay as in the case of another ancestor of the 1840's, James Lane of Broadwindsor. He had a horse and cart but one day whilst going about his business, he fell off, and both horse and cart ran over him. He survived a few days, just long enough to write his will. Even earlier in the early 1700's, Lewis Norman, a quaker, often travelled from his home in Lillington to Sherborne, Bridport, Dorchester, Bristol and London to attend meetings. You can read about his travels here: http://www.weymouth.here-on-the.net/dorset-quakers.html Running the Strays Index for the S & D FHS, I have been surprised by the great distances our ancestors travelled. Distance appears to have been no object. Debby Rose - Weymouth -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Anti-Virus.
