    1. Army help please?
    2. I have come across an old photograph of a chap in army uniform, it has his name written down but is not dated, judging by the sepia tone and solemn face I am presuming the picture to be 1st world war time, maybe Crimean? Can anyone point me to somewhere that I can a) possibly find army records online and b) how to age the photo, possibly by army uniform. The chap was a Bombadier so I could just find something interesting about him, I presume he was one of my husbands GG Grandmothers brothers. I think I am a bit off topic so presume any replies should be to me offline, Thank you Sara sjsudbury@aol.com

    3. Sara, <I think I am a bit off topic so presume any replies should be to me offline> I shall press the reply all button, as there may be others who want to rummage amongst the military records. These sites crossed my path a while ago and I have not visited any of them recently and they have sat untouched in my Nicene file. Army personnel records since about 1920 can be obtained from:- CS(R)2B, Army Personnel Records Bourne Avenue, Hayes, Middlesex, UB3 1RF Phone +44 20 8573 3831 British Army records are all in the Public Record Office in Kew. They have been filmed and are available from your local LDS Family History Centre if you have one. www.search.com/search/army.html http://techsearch.cnet.com/s www.help.com/cgi-perl http://download.cnet.com/do Pre-1914 service records are held at the PRO, Ruskin Avenue, Kew, Richmond, Surrey TW9 4DU - http://www.pro.gov.uk British Army in the Great War - http://www.1914-1918.net/ Uniforms - http://www.rfc-rnas-raf-register.org.uk/British%20Military%20Uniform%20Identification%20Service.htm Uniforms - http://killeenroos.com/5/list.html - WW1 Uniforms - http://pobox.upenn.edu/~fbl/phtobrit.html Uniforms - http://www.users.globalnet.co.uk/~thinred/collection/collection.html Uniforms - http://www.angelfire.com/ga/BobSanders/ARMYLINKS.html - Capitals in this URL are important Military cap badges - http://www.egframes.co.uk/index.html Hope there is something helpful on there somewhere. 3. Hi Sara: If he was a Bombardier he'd have been in the Royal Artillery, MIke. ----- Original Message ----- From: <Sjsudbury@aol.com> To: <ENG-DEV-SOUTHHAMS-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, November 10, 2004 9:11 AM Subject: [SOUTHHAMS] Army help please? > I have come across an old photograph of a chap in army uniform, it has his > name written down but is not dated, judging by the sepia tone and solemn face I > am presuming the picture to be 1st world war time, maybe Crimean? 3. Sara ... or he might have been a Bombadier in the Royal Horse Artillery. Can send you a scan of a photo of my grandfather Alfred Sidney Wood - born South Pool - who was in the RHA from 1900 to 1920 - if it helps.
