Carolyn, I'm not sure that this is the correct John and Elizabeth as the names are so common, but a John LUSCOMBE married Elizabeth YABSLEY in Aveton Gifford, Devon on 1.11.1793 It may be that these were all their children although the eight year gap between the last two makes me think that there is a possibility that Richard was the son of a different John and Elizabeth LUSCOMBE. My grandfather Alfred Samuel STEER was born on 1.11.1878 at Waterhead, Aveton Gifford, Devon, the son of Eliza Jane LUSCOMBE, a single woman His parents were married by banns in Aveton Gifford on 25.1.1879 - Jarvis Veale STEER (bachelor of South Milton of full age, a labourer) and Eliza Jane LUSCOMBE (spinster of this parish, aged 20). Fathers - William STEER (labourer) and Samuel LUSCOMBE (labourer). Witnesses - Andrew STEER and Sarah STEER (Jarvis Veale's siblings). If anyone knows anything about Samuel, I'd love to hear, he is an enigma. Hi, I've been watching the LUSCOMBE dialogue on the list, and though I can't help with any additional details, I'm wondering if anyone can tie the LUSCOMBE families to the LUCKHAM family in the South Milton area. I have a Mary Luscombe LUCKHAM, born abt 1808, later married to Nicholas MOORE (1829 South Milton), then died of the cholera in 1832 (also South Milton - all courtesy of Ray). I guess Mary's mother or grandmother may have been a LUSCOMBE before marriage.
