Hi to all, Whilst looking up for someone I came across this, I know that there are interested folk on the List but can't remember all your names. I have no further info. Exeter Marriage Licence FHL 0197260 1741 Let no Licence be granted to William ROOPE of Kingsbridge, surgeon, to marry Mary WILLS of same, sp. till notice be given to Sarah FORD of Northhuish [sic]. To be felt at Mt LANGWORTHY'S, apothecary in Brent. PS not sure of the word " felt " maybe it should have been " left ", I may have written that wrong as it doesn't make sense to me now. I wonder if this William is the father of Mary ROOPE who married William CRANCH. Bev
Bev, You wrote <I wonder if this William is the father of Mary ROOPE who married William CRANCH.> Do you have any more on that family? The last note that I received from my Australian CRANCH cousin about William CRANCH and Mary ROOPE included this paragraph:- <One group that is intriguing me is this one: Hannah CRANCH m William BOND 23 Sept 1777 - Kingsbridge William CRANCH m Mary ROOPE 25 June 1786 - Kingsbridge Nathaniel CRANCH m Jane BEER 12 Aug 1782 - Kingsbridge Jeremiah CRANCH m Elizabeth MONN 15 July 1782 - West Alvington Richard CRANCH m Jane BOWRING 7 Oct 1781 - Exeter They were all Kingsbridge Non-conformists. And are all closely related The William CRANCH/ Mary ROOPE line has big links with Boston, USA and is probably the surviving link to Richard CRANCH ( ex Kingsbridge) who married Mary SMITH the sister in law of President John ADAMS.> Regards, Jack Steer ----- Original Message ----- From: "Beverley Edmonds" <beverley@yourisp.com.au> To: <ENG-DEV-SOUTHHAMS-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, May 24, 2006 11:46 PM Subject: [SOUTHHAMS] William ROOPE of Kingsbridge > > > Hi to all, > > Whilst looking up for someone I came across this, I know that there are > interested folk on the List but can't remember all your names. > > I have no further info. > > Exeter Marriage Licence > FHL 0197260 > > 1741 > Let no Licence be granted to William ROOPE of Kingsbridge, surgeon, to > marry > Mary WILLS of same, sp. till notice be given to Sarah FORD of Northhuish > [sic].
