    3. Yesterday I posted a request for assistance regarding the marriage of John TARRING and Grace (unknown). This morning I was surprised, and certainly very grateful to receive replies from Arthur French, Sue Slater, Terry Leaman and Sandra Rhodes. All these replies were comprehensive and will, I am sure, prove extremely helpful. My profound thanks. However - it appeared that this elusive couple were in Totnes all the time, so I got out (and dusted) my microfiches of the Totnes PRs and looked again and, at first still couldn't find a marriage for John and Grace Tarring on 1 Aug 1762. There was only one marriage on that day and I therefore read through the entire record slip, which commenced by recording the banns of a couple unknown to me, followed by (you've guessed it) the marriage of John and Grace TARRING. I had thought that each entry slip recorded the Banns, followed by the Marriage of the same couple and feel sure that this has been the case in other records of this sort that I have seen. Am I mistaken? I have been wrong before - just occasionally of course. Do I have to sign myself Poor Barmy Sam? Your comments would be welcome.
