    2. Michael Mitchelmore
    3. More notes from Linda Mitchelmore: CORNWORTHY The churchyard is fenced off because stones are dangerous. But inside the church we found a history of the village. In 1850 a great part of the parish belonged to Sir J Duntze, the Rev J Ley, JFR Phillips, MP French, P. MITCHELMORE, John and Edward Holditch. In 1839 the estate of Dinnacombe was advertised for a seven year let of the farmhouse - all enquiries to Mr. Robert Mitchelmore at the farmhouse. ASHPRINGTON In the churchyard we found the grave of a Henry Mitchelmore, died 1855 (or it might have been 33, difficult to read) aged 86. PAIGNTON CEMETERY In Paignton cemetery (not the Parish church greaveyard) we found Catherine Mitchelmore, wife of Edward. Catherine died 29.5.1889 aged 61, but Edward doesn't appear to be in the same grave. That's it for the moment. ===== Michael Mitchelmore Sydney, Australia OPC for Chawleigh, Cheldon, Chumleigh, Eggesford & Wembworthy For MITCHELMORE, PHILLIPS, SAUNDERS & TUCKER family histories, visit http://au.geocities.com/m_mitchelmore Find local movie times and trailers on Yahoo! 3. Hi Listmembers I would be very grateful if those of you who have access to the parish records for the parishes that surround Modbury (especially those not on the IGI) could check to see if you have a birth record for Phillip JEANS, a farmer in Modbury. He was shown as 70 years old in the 1841 Census so that would put his birth somewhere between 1767 to 1771. I also cannot find a record of his 1st marriage to Ann that probably took place prior to 1802 when his first child was born. Thank you in advance for any help you can provide. 3. Dianne They were married at Aveton Gifford 14th Dec 1825 Elias Ford witness Philip Jeans and Maria Ford 14th Dec 1825 Lucy Ford witness Philip Jeans and Maria Ford 14th Dec 1825 Maria Ford married Philip Jeans. He was from Modbury, she was from AG. He signed, she made her mark. There is no further information in the record. This is the only Jeans entry in AG but there are lots of Fords, going way back. However, there is no obvious baptism of a Maria or Mary Ford at the appropriate time. He would have been about 50 at the time of this marriage, so was Maria of a similar age? Could she have been a widow? There is no other Ford wife called Mary at the relevant time so you probably need to look elsewhere. Have you tried the DFHS marriage index for Ford? That might indicate where you should look. Regards Chris Burgoyne OPC for Aveton Gifford. 3. Nancy, I know nothing about your SULLOCK family, but if I were looking for people in Brixham, the first port of call would be the Brixham Heritage Museum, which has a site at http://www.brixhamheritage.org.uk/ - they will check records for a small contribution. There is also the Brixham Sailing Trawlers web site which fascinating and is at http://www.brixhamsailingtrawlers.co.uk/index.htm Regards, Jack Steer Banbury ----- Original Message ----- From: "Nancy" <nlangdonwebb@adelphia.net> To: <ENG-DEV-SOUTHHAMS-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, September 07, 2004 9:40 PM Subject: [SOUTHHAMS] SULLOCK, Brixham, 1841also TABB and HARTNUP > Hello all, > I am searching for my SULLOCK family. > The 1851 Census Index show some SULLOCK's. > Does anyone have and index for 1841 census or church records for Brixham? > If so I would appreciate a look-up. > If not, where best would I purchase a copy of the census? > > William Sullock's death certificate from 1843 lists his age as 66 and > occupation as shoe maker. 3. While searching the Dartmouth Chronicle for information on my own family recently, I came across this one in the issue of 9 Feb 1872: 9 Feb 1872 at Burrough's-slip, Dartmouth. Wm. Mitchelmore, painter, aged 76. My own family were painters for three generations, but not as early as this William. Can anyone claim him? 3. Hello all, I am searching for my SULLOCK family. The 1851 Census Index show some SULLOCK's. Does anyone have and index for 1841 census or church records for Brixham? If so I would appreciate a look-up. If not, where best would I purchase a copy of the census? William Sullock's death certificate from 1843 lists his age as 66 and occupation as shoe maker. His wife Sarah was present at his death. Sarah died in 1851 at age 72. She was a widow and Monthly Nurse. William Tabb, of the same address, was the informant. Both Sullock's lived in Middlesex near their daughter, Fanny HARTNUP at the time of their deaths. Fanny SULLOCK and Thomas HARTNUP were married at St. Andrews, Holborn, Middlesex on 1839. Thank you. 3. Kevin, I can't help with the LOCK name, it isn't one of my interests. Dittisham is between 2.3 and 2.5 miles from Dartmouth (depending on which part of Dartmouth) according to the nearby places link for the parish on GENUKI. So it is possible that the Dartmouth and Dittisham LOCKs are related. Best regards.
