    1. Army help please?
    2. I have come across an old photograph of a chap in army uniform, it has his name written down but is not dated, judging by the sepia tone and solemn face I am presuming the picture to be 1st world war time, maybe Crimean? Can anyone point me to somewhere that I can a) possibly find army records online and b) how to age the photo, possibly by army uniform. The chap was a Bombadier so I could just find something interesting about him, I presume he was one of my husbands GG Grandmothers brothers. I think I am a bit off topic so presume any replies should be to me offline, Thank you Sara sjsudbury@aol.com

Is this a little place name in Dean Prior or would it be a mis-transcription for Dean Prior. I am looking at the birth place for Margaret LUSCOMBE aged 80 yrs. [of the top of my head now] Cheers Bev. 2. Yes, Bev is right, of course. You can do a surname only search if you select a region too. But you can't add a date range as well. Sorry, I didn't check that before sending my message - I just tested the ability to search only a surname without first name. cheers, Sandra On 6 Nov 2004 at 8:15, Beverley Edmonds wrote: > Hi All, > > If I try do as Sandra says..... that is, put in a date range, all I get is > this message in red. > > " If you enter a last name without a first name, you must either not enter > parent or spouse names, a state, or a year, or you must enter a batch number > or a film number. 1. BBC: Who do you think you are?
    2. Arthur French
    3. The BBC's publicity for its Tuesday night Family History program says that BBC local radio stations will do something to link up with that. So I sent a copy of my "Ipplepen" booklet to Radio Devon. (See http://www.cs.ncl.ac.uk/genuki/DEV/Ipplepen/index.html#History ) This Tuesday I was interviewed by Belinda Dixon, presenter of a programme called "Good Morning Devon" which goes out 6 to 9 a.m. GMT on Saturdays. I managed to mention quite a few places in Devon other than Ipplepen, and I also recommended Rootsweb Mailing Lists! It was all very informal and unrehearsed. Belinda says it will probably go out about 7.45 a.m. GMT on Saturday the 13th of November. I believe you can listen to Radio Devon anywhere if you have a radio player installed in your computer. So, if you are not in Devon, see http://www.bbc.co.uk/england/radiodevon/ Arthur French

Mine's almost next door so I've done it for you. There's no indexed CALLARD/DISTIN marriage...... But - for what it's worth - I did notice that a very large proportion of the CALLARD baptisms were in Buckfastleigh and I see that the oldest CALLARD couple I have in my 1841 census transcript were living in North Huish and both were born c1780. So perhaps "your" CALLARD orginates in that northern area of the Hams? Best of luck, Ray

    3. Hi John, If you know the likely parish, it is possible to search for surnames in the IGI by using the Hugh Wallis website and finding the batch number for that parish. You'll find the Hugh Wallis site at: <http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~hughwallis/IGIBatchNumbers/Country England.htm#PageTitle> However, many Devon parishes are not included in the IGI. Good luck! Joan Rotorua NZ
