I have just uploaded to the M*CH*MORE One Name Study website www.picknowl.com.au/homepages/bobm nearly 2000 baptism, marriage and burial records of people with the surnames MITCHELMORE, MICHELMORE, MOUCHEMORE, MUCHAMORE, MUCHMORE etc. taken from various parish registers. Most of the entries are from parishes in the South Hams, the heaviest concentrations being in Buckfastleigh in the north and Stokenham/Slapton in the south. Further contributions to this collection, especially for the parishes that are missing or only poorly represented, would be most welcome -- as would indications of errors and confirmations of correctness or completeness. Hi I am looking for Lt-Colonel Howard George Fitzgerald Hay,C.B.E. late of Filleigh, Chudleigh, S.Devon who married my grandmother, in 1952, when he was 72 and she was 63. Both Nanna and Uncle Howard returned to Sydney Australia to live and Howard never returned to Great Britain. I am trying to find his daughter, Avice Evans (I think) as I want to return Avice's wedding photos and Howard's war medals. Hloward's first wife was Avice Pitman (d.1949) daughter of the late Henry Herbert Pitman of Bishop's Hull, Taunton, Somerset and Christchurch NZ. I have tried searching using "Google" but have had no luck so "Rootsweb" is almost the last resort!! Howard's medals should be returned to his family so I am hoping someone will be able to help me find Avice, his daughter, or her children. Rosemary Phillips

Hi I'm trying to find the parents of Joanna HOBBS (my GGGG Grandmother) who was born about 1760. She married William PROUT in 1782 in Stokenham, lived in Ugborough and North Huish at various times and was buried in North Huish in 1821. The very kind efforts of Ray Osborn shows that she was not baptised in Stokenham, Dodbrooke, South Pool, Sherford or Charleton. So............does anyone have any information which could help me? My PROUT line and all the links into it have been a real voyage of discovery with nothing being straightforward!!! Thanks in anticipation Mike Gurney Torquay, Devon

Goodmorning one and all, An interesting find in the Sherford PR's when looking for my names. Elizabeth Lacy EDWARDS born 28 Apr 1836 Mary Ann EDWARDS born 6 Mar 1838 Ann Frances EDWARDS born 17 Apr 1840 William EDWARDS born 5 Jul 1842 These children were all baptised on the same day, 30 Apr 1845 at Sherford. The parents James EDWARDS and Frances were of " Paradise Sandwich Bay, North America ". James is recorded as a Fisherman. James at some point may have been living at Chillington in Stokenham as his daughter Ann Frances died there and was buried at Shrford on the 27 Sep 1845. When did James immigrate to North America? Did he marry in Devon? When did he arrive back in Devon? Was Frances a LACY before marriage? There are LACY names in the Southhams. In 1851 James is now living at Halwell....but with a different wife. James EDWARDS 51 Farmer of 80 acres born Sherford Harriett wife 49 yrs born Cornworthy William son agd 8 rs Farm Serv born Labrador Paradise Where is Frances buried? Labrador Paradise would trick anyone I would think unless they knew where the family had been previously. I hope this info helps anyone who is a bit tricked up with this family. Can anyone add to this, please post to the List for the benefit of everyone. Cheers Bev -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Anti-Virus. I'm tracking this chunk of DORE family members and will list things chronologically here so it might be better understood...otherwise if not, please contact me and we can compare notes. I'm especially interested in the West Alvington area which might include Dodbrooke and Kingsbridge for some various other family members ( I just listed this direct line of John Knight Dore ) An online pen pal located the gravesite for Charles Dore and young son William, however I cannot find any other family members burial locations. Hello everyone I am a new subscriber to your list and desperately seeking information on my BARNES family. If anyone is researching this name I would love to hear from you. My interest in Devon begins with my GG Grandparents Thomas BARNES and his wife Ann Rebecca (formerly ELLIOTT). Thomas was born in 1846 (bapt. 1 March 1846 Dartington). His parents were Samuel & Eleanor.Ann Rebecca is shown as born in Newton Ferras aged 35 (on the 1881C). I have Thomas on the 1851 Census at Newhouse Cot, Dartington Totnes, but wonder if there is any possibility of finding him on the 1861C ?There are two mentions of a Thomas on the 1871C, both with Naval connections so I am very keen to pinpoint which one might be him, I am hoping the 1861C might help to clarify this.I have been given an entry from the 1861C showing a Samuel and Mary Ann but feel this is not my line at this stage unless Eleanor had died and Samuel remarried and raised more children and duplicated names??? If anyone has access to Parish Records for the area, I would be so very grateful for any input. I am trying to get this line in some order before a planned visit to UK in June this year, so that I may more easily visit places of importance to my ancestors, without wasting too much time "dithering".And of course if anyone is researching these lines, I would be very glad of your knowledge. Since the sad passing of Bob Muchamore last year, the M*CH*MORE One Name Study and the associated web site that Bob founded have been in a state of limbo. I am now happy to report that, at the request of his widow and family, I will be attempting to continue the great work that Bob started. For the moment, the M*CH*MORE web site will remain at http://www.picknowl.com.au/homepages/bobm I have done a superficial re-jig of the web site with the intention of making it clearer what information is on the site and how it can be accessed. Further development is planned. I'd be glad to receive any contributions relating to any M*CH*MORE family, ancient or modern. If you by any chance sent material to Bob within the past year or so, it would be helpful if you could re-send it to me now. Thanks in advance for your help in making information on this quintessential South Hams surname more widely available.
