    1. Buckpitt marriage about 1812
    2. ROBINSON
    3. If some kind person on this list has access to the Ashprington Marriages 1754-1837 booklet published by the Devon FHS (which our library does not have) I would be most grateful to know if a William Buckpitt married a Mary there about 1812/13. Any ENLEY/HENLEY marriages would be of interest to my research. With thanks, Maureen Robinson, Canberra Australia.

    3. Hello again, I am wondering if anyone can identify this Elizabeth BAILEY for me please. Elizabeth BAILEY would have been born c 1820-1825 of Blackawton. She married Thomas EDMONDS [that's if the marriage went ahead, I have the Banns notice]. She died sometime bet Aug 1846 [Banns] and Sep 1847, when Thomas EDMONDS being a widower married Sarah HELLEY/HELLY of Ashprington [maybe bapt at Cornworthy] aft banns in 1847. 3. Dear all, Seeing as the ADAMS name was mentioned, I had a bit of a scout around and came up with nothing for Arthur. 1. Agnes LORAM of Chagford ? & William GILES of Cornworthy
    2. Beverley Edmonds
    3. Morning, Louisa EDMONDS c 1867 married William GILES in 1885 both born Cornworthy, although I don't have bapt dates for either. William GILES c 1865 is, I believe the son of Thomas GILES and Agnes LORAM [1871 census.] Agnes LORAM is my current headache. According to the 1851 census there is a Agnes LORAM c 1829 born at Chagford. 1841 census has a 10 yr old servant Agnes LORAM at Chagford In 1861 Agnes who by this time has married Thomas GILES in 1856 [father of William above] gives her birth place as Holne. She doesn't appear to be baptiesed there though. She also has a son Robert who is born in Totnes Union Workhouse c 1851. In 1871 her birthplace is unknown. Thomas GILES is deceased bet 1878-1881, probably Cornworthy, as Agnes is now married to Edward EVENS and is living with him and 3 of her children to Thomas GILES at Cornworthy Village. She now says she was born in Ireland. Has anyone got Agnes LORAM in their tree? Is this the same Agnes LORAM who can't make up her mind where she was born? I seem to be in a muddle with this Agnes:), normally I wouldn't bother when I get into a dither over someone but she facinates me. Regards Bev

    3. Arthur, Does your ADAMS information include anything on the Caleb GILLARD who married Mary ADAMS? They married on 27.8.1799 in West Alvington and were my 3x great grandparents. 3. I wrote to DEVON-L on Aug 2 about my wife's great-grandpa John ADAMS (b. Sherford 1808) who was a shipowner and coalmerchant in Dodbrooke (Kingsbridge). In 1851 and at his marriage in 1859 he said he was a "widower". I can't find anything about the first marriage. Trying to solve this mystery, I borrowed "The New Maritime History of Devon: Vol 2" (Conway Press and University of Exeter 1994). There's a bit about a Captain Robert Wilson ADAMS, master of the ship "Lady St Johns", launched 1898. I've done a bit of work on him. He was born in Salcombe 21 Sep 1842, son of Mary Pack ADAMS née DAWE, baptised 31 Mar 1816 in Malborough parish. But, alas! Mary's husband was a master mariner, and doesn't appear with Mary in the 1851 census, or in 1861. He was a John, though (m Jun Qr 1838, Plymouth RD)!! That John can't be the one I'm looking for! Mary was still having babies in 1861! But I'm very interested in the other ADAMS families in the South Hams, and I have a fair amount of data on the Malborough branch. Can anyone identify this John? Could he be son of James/Elizabeth born W Alvington about 1815? Who else? Arthur F

MITCHELMOREs intersected with Slapton BUCKPITTs twice, according to my files: * John MITCHELMORE married Elizabeth BUCKPITT at Slapton on 2 Jan 1823. * George MITCHELMORE was a servant to John BUCKPITT, miller, Garra Bridge, Slapton in 1871 I'd be glad to hear of any further connections. 1. barrack st/ebrington st Kingsbridge.
    2. Clare McK.
    3. Hello all, I am interested in the above street, it shows as Barrack st in the 1841 census and later (anyone know when?) became Ebrington st. I have John Jordain, a timber merchant who lived in a large house off Barrack street owning quite a chunk of the road on the 1839 tithe map. There are several sawyers living in the same street who perhaps worked for him and lived in his cottages. Does anyone have any links to Hillside, ( a small lane running of Ebrington st) numbers 25-29 ebrington st? A Mr WR Gay who started a school in 1875 in a building next to Jordains house? or anything from that locale? thanks and regards Clare.
