Hi Pat, I live in St. Catharines, Ontario and Thorold is a suburb of St. Catharines. Do you have a photograph of William's headstone or just the inscription? If you don't have photographs let me know and I'll see what I can do for you. As for Tolon, DBY check John Palmer's Wirksworth site for Derbyshire placenames at: http://www.wirksworth.org.uk/DPI-T.htm Take care Jayne http://www.webcomcreations.com/memory/index.htm > I am looking for any info on William Carter. > > William Carter is my gggrandfather. There is now a Bakery there plus a tea-room and also a cafe upstairs but I dont think it belongs to Woodheads anymore. I dont remember a Woodhead Chemist on Low Pavement although it is quite close to High Street. There is a Boots there now where there used to be a Greaves chemists.
