Hi Rita, I think we've emailed before. Nice to hear from somebody who remembers Woodhead's. I think they sold their business in the 1960s or 70s. Since then they've had a restaurant business and fairly recently opened "Woodhead's Coffee House" so the name is back. I remember Woodhead's on my visits to Chesterfield from Sheffield to see my relations in the 1930's, 40's & 50' My grandfather was the Edward of E. Woodhead & Sons. He died in 1910 and then my uncles and their sons ran it. Edward's father, James, took over the business of his brother-in-law, George Barker, in 1844. As you will see from my email, at that time there was a Joseph Woodhead in business in Low Pavement. My mother said that James' father was a Joseph Woodhead but I can find nothing about him and wonder if this is him. Sorry if I've gone on a bit. I hope Germany is warming up now. Dry & sunny in Ripon. Regards, Mark --------------------------------- With Yahoo! Mail you can get a bigger mailbox -- choose a size that fits your needs
