1. [Chesterfield] BLOOD Family DNA Project
2. This is a general letter that I am addressing to several different lists and boards in order to make contact with other searchers interested in a Y chromosome DNA study of the BLOOD surname. Over the years I collected information on the BLOOD family coming out of Ruddington at about 1864 and their journey onto America and Philadelphia. In Ruddington we have two brothers (BLOOD) being married to two sisters (BRANSON). Some of the family followed a Thomas Branson onto Philadelphia to continue their trade as Framework Knitters. The search has been able to go back further but with little reliable documentation. I hope to attract other male BLOOD participants who are similarly interested in this project. All that is required is a sample, swabbed from the inside of the cheek. (The Y-chromosome used for the test is not found in females, but is passed down essentially unchanged in the male line, so that men descended from a common male ancestor will show matching patterns.) The actual testing is being done through Family Tree DNA (familytreedna.com). I am establishing the project with the 12 marker Y chromosome test. 12 markers are sufficient to determine whether or not two people are related. The 12 marker project price is also more affordable for all participants. Would anyone with an interest in this project or any questions please contact me. 3. Since many on this list live in England, maybe you can help me. When I go to Ireland, I am going via London and I am flying standby (means if there is room on the plane for me). I am worried that when I am on the return flight, I might not be able to get on on the plane I am planning to go on and the next one won't leave until the next day. That means I would stay over night in London (Heathrow Airport). Can someone give me the names of some hotels in the area that are reasonable but safe and clean? You can email me off list. 1. [Chesterfield] ADMIN MSG
2. Pat Connors
3. A week from today I will be starting a three month long trip that will take me to PA, NY, DC, MA, CT and Ireland. While I will have my laptop with me, I won't be on line as often as when I am home. At best, I'll be able to check the lists and my email once a day but at times it might be less so I would like to give a short tutorial on how to troubleshoot some of your mailing list problems you may encounter and if you can't reach me quickly this my help you to solve your problem(s). Today I received and email from someone who said she hadn't received any emails from a particular list for a few days...okay, to solve this problem, you need to know was the list just slow or was something wrong with her subscription to it? Here's two ways to check: 1. Go to the lists archives and see if any emails have been posted to the list that you have not received. Use the browse function and then sort chronologically. If there has been messages posted that you haven't received, check to see if you are still subbed to the list, see #2. 2. Go to Rootsweb's Password Central and request a list of all the mailing lists that you are subscribed to. Suppose you try to unsubscribe from the list and it doesn't work or you get a message that you are not subscribed to the list but you continue to receive mail from it: 1. If you sent the unsubscribe message to the list, it won't work. 2. Do you belong to the L version and trying to unsub from D or do you belong to D and trying to unsub from L? 3. Did you forget to add 'request' to the email address. 4. Do you have more than one email address, and trying to unsub with the one that is not subbed to the list? You sent a message to the list, and it did not post: 1. Did you use the correct address? 2. Did you include 'request' in your address? This is only used to sub and unsub, not post. 3. Did you send it to 'D'? All member both L and D subscribers, use L to post messages. 4. Do you have more than one email address and you sent it with the one that is not subbed to the list? Here are some Rootsweb mailing lists websites, that I suggest you bookmark: The index of all the Rootsweb mailing lists. Each list has it's own webpage, where you can email the listowner if you don't know her/his name and email address. At the webpage you can also, subscribe or unsubscribe to the list and access the lists archives through browse and search functions. If you click on 'browse', you can look at the list's messages by month. Once you click on the month, you will get all the titles of the messages posted that month, at the top you can set your view for chronological order, by date. If you click on 'search', you get to search on your key word(s) by year. http://lists.rootsweb.com If you can not find our mailing list, please write to the list and I'll be happy to show you how to find it. By writing to the list, everyone will learn. The password central is another good place to bookmark. Here is the place where you can find what lists you are subscribed to: http://passwordcentral.rootsweb.com/ Where is says, 'E-mail address with which you registered for any of the below:' put in your email address (if you have more than one, you will have to repeat the process for each one). Then go to 'Mailing Lists:' and click the box that says, "To which lists am I subscribed?' You will then receive, to the email address you inserted in the box, all the lists that are subbed to that address. If you lose this link, go to the Rootsweb home page (http://www.rootsweb.com), under Help, you will find a link for 'Password Central'. I hope the above helps. If you have anymore questions, about mailing lists, please feel free to email your questions to the list. I have a week to fully explain how you can help yourself, in case it takes more than a day or two to reach me. I also want to thank all of you for your input and your unselfish contributions in helping others and myself to make this list so much fun to be the listowner. -- Pat Connors, Sacramento CA, listowner http://www.connorsgenealogy.com Professional Genealogy Research All outgoing mail virus free, scanned by Norton 2002

2. Margaret, Im sorry I havent collected any of those names. I am primarily interested in the SPOONER GAGING WIDDOWSON and some BALL families from that area. I can say though that I am transcribing the Anglican records for the above names as I dont think the Catholic registers have been deposited although I stand to be corrected on this. If they have I would be glad to do a lookup for you on my next visit in 3 or 4 weeks time. This may be longer as a new branch for my tree is about to be born :) rob ========Original Message======== Subj: Re: [Chesterfield] new lister Date: 05/07/2003 18:57:41 GMT Daylight Time From: Margaret@merry49.fsnet.co.uk Reply-to: ENG-DERBYSHIRE-CHESTERFIELD-L@rootsweb.com To: ENG-DERBYSHIRE-CHESTERFIELD-L@rootsweb.com Sent from the Internet (Details) Hi Rob, You too! 2. Joy, I can find no mention of a solomon on the list. However I have only transcribed up until about 1893 and only one church. There are 2 more in Chesterfield plus the non conformist churches. They are for a much later time. My next step will be marriages and then burials or the other way around. After which I will make a move into the outer parishes. rob ========Original Message======== Subj: Re: [Chesterfield] new lister Date: 05/07/2003 10:58:04 GMT Daylight Time From: m.hungerford@ntlworld.com Reply-to: ENG-DERBYSHIRE-CHESTERFIELD-L@rootsweb.com To: ENG-DERBYSHIRE-CHESTERFIELD-L@rootsweb.com Sent from the Internet (Details) Just as a fleeting matter of interest, Rob, my aunt was Louie WIDDOWSON, daughter of Solomon and Mary, (Chesterfield, maybe Newbold) and married my mother's brother, Ronald COX about 1936.
