Hi Loretta, The 1871 census would give you the names of his wife and children but unfortunately I don't have that census on my web site yet. I will be transcibing more census years and parish registers over the coming the months so if I come across your William I shall let you know. I am hoping to make contact with the descendants of, or find information concerning, WILLIAM BALL, who died 4-11-1872, in a mine accident. He was a Shotfire at Hollingwood, Staveley Co., Chesterfield. I am especially interested in finding the names of his wife and children, but anything would be greatly appreciated. Thanks very much. Hello Listers: My 2xGrandparents, Thomas Humphrey and Mary Gully Pedley, lived in Wingerworth (Stubbing Court), for 20 years. They moved there in 1850-51 and left in 1870-71. In about 1856-57, their first son Thomas John Everard Pedley died. Because I haven't been able to find any evidence of their second son, Charles Phillipps Pedley, born 1856, I'm thinking that he might also have died very young. And finally, I know that their last child, Nell, died in infancy. They had seven other children, all of whom lived. Now to my question. Does anyone know the names of cemetaries in that area at that time? And where can I buy a list (if there is such a thing), of the people buried in those cemetaries. Thank you, Diane
As I am a new subscriber, I would like to list my interests in Derbyshire. I am searching for a marriage between Samuel JOHNSON and Edith TRUSSELL. They had a daughter, Beatrice in 1920. At the time of her birth they were living at Lock Hill, Killamarsh. On their daughter's birth certificate Samuel was listed as a Coal Miner (Hewer) I have searched the St.Kaths register for their marriage prior to 1920 but have been unable to find anything. The only information I have on this family is that Samuel and Edith were killed in a car accident when Beatrice was quite young. This however, may not be correct. Any information on these families would be most appreciated. Regards, Pat. In Melbourne, Australia.
> > >I have not been receiving my mail either > Well, this morning was the first morning that I didn't receive tons of AOL bounces. Some of you still remain on the list because of the strange way the bounces came, with a list of names, not individual, and the Rootsweb computer only counted the top name. However, AOL subbers did not receive RW mail for five days, not because of the Windows interface but because of the AOL anti-spam program. I noticed this morning, on the RW Help Desk that AOL has resolved the problem and now all the AOL subbers are finally receiving RW mail. Welcome back, we missed you. You can catch up with your mail by checking the list's archives. -- Pat Connors, Sacramento CA, listowner http://www.connorsgenealogy.com Professional Genealogy Research All outgoing mail virus free, scanned by Norton 2002
From the Rootsweb Help Desk... 2004-01-28 AOL is still blocking RootsWeb mail. We have contacted AOL and are working with them to resolve the problem. In the meantime, AOL users can read list mail through the archives at: http://archiver.rootsweb.com/ My comments: AOL users might want to call AOL and issue a complaint since this has been going on since Monday without any resolution of the problem. While the AOL users are not getting their mail, most haven't been dropped due to the way AOL is bouncing the mail and can post to the list. However, as time goes on all will eventually be dropped if AOL doesn't stop bouncing Rootsweb mail. -- Pat Connors, Sacramento CA, listowner http://www.connorsgenealogy.com Professional Genealogy Research All outgoing mail virus free, scanned by Norton 2002

This is only a test.
Hello June Well i dont think its anything to do with this family ,,,,,My Thomas Johnson wasnt married to a Sarah ..... They originated from a Clarke family in Edinburgh,,,,,,,in the 1700's married into the Johnston family ,,,,,,moved to Yorkshire, ,,,and then moved to Stockport , changing the name somewhere along the line to Johnson ,,,before Thomas moved into Chesterfield, Some of your surnames fit , but i dont thinkk there is a connection , Maureen ----- Original Message ----- From: "June Vasey" <junev@aberl.fsnet.co.uk> To: <ENG-DERBYSHIRE-CHESTERFIELD-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, January 23, 2004 10:47 PM Subject: Re: [Chesterfield] Johnson Interest > Hello Maureen > > My Thomas Johnson of Old Brampton near Chesterfield was born > approx 1750 -76. Froggatt's Yard went south from Low Pavement, in the town centre, while Mill Street still exists - just - as a thin sliver of road from Corporation Street to Hollis Lane, sandwiched between the Derbyshire Times offices and the A61 inner relief road. Much of Mill St and the surrounding area came down in the 1970s and early 80s to facilitate the building of said road. Hello Joy Am only still in the 19c with my Smedley's. Hannah Rose was born in Mickleover 1851 = Joseph Storer there in 1873. Ockbrook isn't a million miles away from Derby (about 10 I think) so perhaps the further back I go I might find a link. There are a fair number of Smedley's in Derbyshire. Kind regards June
Dear June T hanks for the reply. Of course you can keep my information on your 'maybe' file, and I will do the same. I will pass anything to you that I find which might be helpful. Kind regards, Aileen
Hello Aileen Thanks for your enquiry about my Johnsons. I cannot see a connection with your Ashover branch at the moment. The ones I am connected to are Thomas - Samuel -Richard-Matthew- Sarah Mary Anne & Rebecca from Old Brampton, weavers, flax spinners & check and calico manufacturer (Thomas). There is a link with the methodist church as well as St. Peter's Old Brampton. As I have only just found out about this whole new branch of the Barker/Vasey family I haven't gathered much info yet. Can I keep your details in my 'maybe' file please? If I do come across anything about your family I will pass it on to you. Good luck with your own research. kind regards June in Edinburgh
