Hello - If the will was proved at Carlisle, the Carlisle Record Office would have a copy. You can email them at: carlisle.record.office@cumbriacc.gov.uk and they will be able to tell you if they have the will. Lee Bridge Cognetta

Hi all. I write asking if anyone can give me some background information regarding a paper mill in Strickland Roger, Westmorland around 1880?. Was there just one or more companies in the area?. Also, I wonder if anyone knows of 'Junction Cottages' in the same area. I presume that that there was a railway line nearby, would i be right?. Any info/links to web pages of interest would be much appreciated. Many thanks. Jonathan. _________________________________________________________________ Express yourself instantly with MSN Messenger! Not sure but I'll phone my mother-in-law tomorrow if that will help. Helen
Hi there. My husbands family live in the village of Burneside (in the parish of Strickland Roger) and his father worked at Croppers Paper Mill until his retirement. You can find more info at _http://www.cumbria-industries.org.uk/cropper.htm_ (http://www.cumbria-industries.org.uk/cropper.htm) There is a railway line running from Kendal to Windermere. In the past Croppers had their own private railway line, running to Bowston and Cowan Head, where there were two more paper mills. Junction Cottages are in the village of Burneside, but not connected with the railway. I'm not sure why they are called Junction Cottages but they are located at the junction of two rivers - the Sprint and the Mint, and also where two roads join. A useful book is The Leaves We Write on: James Cropper: a History in Paper-making (Paperback). You can buy it from Amazon. Helen
I am researching the following Dent families GREENBANK POWLEY/POOLEY METCALFE LINDSAY Janet Australia
I am working hard at tracing my Martindale/Airey Roots who resided, in the towns of Lancashire & Westmorland, England, between the years of 1736 & 1887, these familie's are who i descend from, only i have hit a few brickwalls, and can't continue on with my research at this present time. Below is what i have presently provided, i hope it helps with tearing my brickwall down, the information below is accurate, and properly documented, as i have a copy of Catherine's Birth Certificate, i will provide information on who Catherine married, if it's requested. ============================================================= My Martindale roots I would like to start with my great grandmother Catherine Martindale (B) May 14 1887, in Islington, Lancashire, Liverpool, England, Parent's John Martindale & Mary Ann Ghent. ============================================================= My Airey roots I would like to start off with Catherine's Great Great Grandfather Benjamin Martindale (B) Abt. 1762 in Saint Lawrence, Appleby, Westmorland, England, Benjamin's Parents were John Martindale & Hannah Airey, (M) January 19, 1761 in Kentmere, Westmorland, England, I can't go any further until i find out more on knowing the names & proper dates of Hannah's Gr Gr grandfather, Gawin Airey. I could move forward with my Airey ancestors, but it's all that i have at this time, so can't help with anything more right now.
Is anybody on this list researching the surnames Mckeever, McFall, Burns,Henderson,Bridgman,Duncanson or Sayle.
Dear NJP Yes there certainly is an Allerby Hall. I am Tom Dalzell, direct descendant of Tom Dalzell 1802-1959 of Allerby Hall. Proud to own his silver toddy ladle beating his initials, and also his sister Elizabeth's grandfather clock. I have a fairly comprehensive Dalzell family tree if you're interested. In 1787 Allerby Hall was listed as being one of the 'remarkable seats' of Cumberland. Kind Regards Tom Dalzell NJP wrote: > Has anyone ever heard of Alerby Hall in the UK?
