I have an ancestor JOSEPH WILD (spelling changed to Wilde with an 'e' in 1860s) born 1829 in Leeds, Yorkshire. In the 1842 England Census he is registered as living with RICHARD WRAY (born in Kendall, Westmoreland approx. 1805) and GRACE WRAY (born South Crossland, Yorkshire approx. 1806). I believe he regarded these as his parents as he used their first names to name his eldest son and daughter. Can anyone shed any light as to how I can trace RICHARD WRAY's ancestors as I have had no luck as yet tracing them. regards Linda Cadier (nee WILDE) Please consider the environment before printing this email.
Where it says "year of birth/marriage/etc" the next block will give "range" I always put in at least 10 years. It will then bring up the birth of the Joseph in 21 May, 1830.....could that be him? or are you positive of his date as being 1829? >From the marriage records, etc....it looks as though the 1830 Joseph is "yours" unless you have a definite proof of 1829. Let me know what you find. Hello List My thanks to all who provided info on the BROWNs of Haile. Best wishes Frank South Africa.
Hello Frank, I was very interested in reading your post. I have AGNEW in my family line and I believe at one stage some of the family changed their name to BROWN. And some of my AGNEW line & one of my DRAKE line went to KIMBERLEY, STH AFRICA. I have BRAGG family who were born & resided in HAILE. Also my Great Great Grandmother Sarah BURNET ( one T ) married a William BRAGG of HAILE. There may be some family connection with yours. On one of the Census someone incorrectly called my Great Grandmother Elizabeth AGNES, but her name was really Elizabeth AGNEW. One of her brothers George AGNEW went to STH AFRICA. I would have to go through old papers to find the info I have. I haven't worked on my AGNEW line for many years. Good Luck in your search. I will keep your info for future reference. And if ever I find there is any connection I will get in touch with you as I hope you will do the same with me. Leonie Copeland. Hi Frank, I think we have corresponded before when I ventured onto the SA list. I have your Brown's and Earlys. John and David went to Kimberley, a place that I have visited. I have copy of a letter from David to Debeers when he went off on an expedition to Mashona (??) land and Debeers did not give him what they had promised. I would be interested in any news of John after the Siege of Kimberley. I think he became a licensed victualer, this is a hunch as I saw a picture in Kimberley that I thought it was of him. Will look into this more deeply later today. Please contact me off list, Sorry I have lost your email address when I had problems with the computer Anne > Hello List > > I'm new to Cumbrian research. Hi all I am a descendant of Rev Samuel HALLIFAX curate and schoolmaster at Wigton in the late 1700s early 1800s. I have obtained a book on the Nelson Thomlinson School formerly Wigton Free Grammar School which details much of his life. In that the author mentions another descendant Louise ATKINSON is a sixth form pupil at the school in 1975. I would like to contact her if possible.
