A recently found cousin, has told me that about 1745, an Anthony Knight was convicted of murdering Joseph Hodges. She believes the murder took place during the 1745 Jacobite Rebellion. After which a considerable number of trials for "high treason", etc. were held in Carlisle - resulting in 91 hanging and quartering sentencing at Carlisle Assizes, of which 33 were carried out during October and November of 1745 [Carlisle 20, Brampton 6 and Penrith 7] . Does anyone know where I could find more information about these trials? My youngest son is so pleased I've finally found "someone interesting". In any case you ideas, comments, suggestions are most welcome. Bill Knight Chagrin Falls, Ohio Researching all the KNIGHT's of Cumberland.
