Hi all, Thanks for the quick replies. I was afraid it was the transcript. Just before Christmas (this was like a present under the tree!) I stumbled on to a Power-of-Attorney that gave me 2 children I hadn't known about. The next day, while checking the married name of the daughter I came across a person who had a cache of old photos no one could identify. I'm close to identifying them all. The daughter was Sarah Isabella Carlton born 1848 (probably Little Broughton ; or possibly Camerton) Cumberland to Thomas & Jane (McLean) Carlton. It would seem that sometime c.1880 she her husband and children moved to Wolsingham, Durham. (The Power-of-Attorney puts her in Durham in 1891) I was trying to get verification that it was transcribed correctly. It is at Park Terrace, Wolsingham, Durham ; and the head of the household is Robert Birkett. My questions are - His wife is listed as Sarah J - is it J or I ? She is listed as born at Summerton, Cumberland (could it be Camerton because I can't find a Summerton, Cumberland)? There are 2 children listed as "Stobbart" - is that an accurate rendition of the names ? They are called "daur in law" & "son in law" to Robert - is this meant to be stepchildren (I know that could be long ago but seems to me I've seen stepchild on the 1881 census before) ? And does that imply Sarah was married to a Stobbart c.1866 (aside from legitimacy issues) ? Everyone was born in Cumberland ; the 2 Stobbart children and 1 Birkett child in Bridekirk. David
