    1. [CUL-CAR] Resettlement land settlement
    2. During the wars, there was a development of Land settlement houses in Cumbria, where people from the North East who were in deprivation were settled into North and West Cumberland - They were given properties with an acre of land, supposedly so they could be self sufficient and grow there own vegetables and fruits etc. Many of them were from the mining areas of the North East this was a resettlement for the persons concernerd but it was called land resettlement. The houses were distinctive and were meant to last 30 years ( Ithink it was 30 years) as they were of the first pre fabrication kind, and weren't unlike some of the houses that you see in new England USA today. Many of the houses remain in and around the Carlisle area, and are now privately owned and have well outlasted there 30 year life span. The houses that are no longer there I remenber in the late 50's still went as far down as Cockermouth on the Moota road. These were built between the wars, before there was an increase in the ehavy industries in West Cumbria i.e. steel works etc. As Neville said the word resettlement is used in allsorts of contexts.
