Steve Bulman's page about carlisle factories at http://www.stevebulman.f9.co.uk/cumbria/carlisle_factories_f.html Says that the firm was started by a Benjamin Scott in 1799, who was succeeded by a nephew Hudson Scott, who was succeeded in 1868 by the sons of Hudson Scott, Mr. Benjamin and Mr. W. Hudson Scott. It was only after that tin box making became part of the business. Which all adds up to quite a few Hudson Scotts! Generations can be hard to judge sometimes, though - My ancester Samuel Rome married at Arthuret in 1785, and his son George married at Arthuret in 1853 (at the age of 56) - a gap of 68 years. 'Cumberland Families and Heraldry' mentions the death of this nephew in 1891, aged 83. My Hudson Scott married in 1806, so possibly was the father. The marriage was in the Pardshaw register - possibly the birth is also. I don't have immediate access to the register to check. Chris chris@dickinson.uk.net
