    1. [CUL-CAR] TURNER's in Wigton, SCOTT and LITTLE in Carlisle
    2. Malcom Woods
    3. Hi List, My G.G.Grandmother was Mary Ann TURNER and I have only recently found her birthplace as Wigton, Cumbs. On the IGI I found her Bapt. 16 Feb 1832, parents Robert TURNER and Elizabeth RICHARDSON. I sent for a copy of the actual church entry, and Robert TURNER was a Hatter. I have little more information about these Turner's. My Carlisle connection is my G.G.Grandparents James SCOTT Born about 1827 in Kirkoswald and Jane LITTLE Bapt. 22 May 1825 in Carlisle. They were married in St Mary's, Carlisle 26 Dec 1846. James father was a Well Sinker, deceased and Jane's father was Thomas LITTLE, Shoemaker. Their address was given as Bridge St. On the 1851 census James and Jane are living at 33 Water St. He is 24 and Jane is 27, they did not have any children with them. They later moved to Bolton, Lancs. where they had a daughter, Jane born about 1853 and later had my G.Grandmother Elizabeth in 1855 in Manchester. On some Carlisle Parish Records I found a James SCOTT, Wellsinker who had a daughter called Ruth in 1829. The mother was a Jane ???This could be James Jnr. sister. Also on the PR's I found Thomas LITTLE. Shoemaker, and Jane ??? of Caldew Gate, who had a Jane LITTLE (mine) in 1825 and also a John Pearson LITTLE in 1828 (Not sure about this one). I would love to hear from anyone who can help me in any way to progress. Mal Malcolm & Gladys Woods Email: salford6@starwon.com.au

    3. Hello Robert, The IGI has the following entry.... James TELFORD, baptised 04 JAN 1801 Saint Cuthbert, Carlisle, Father: WILLIAM TELFORD Mother: MARY BOOTHMAN A search using those parents turned up James as the only one listed . There was a trend during that time to list baptisms as (for example) X the son of A Smith, labourer of Carlisle and B his wife formerly Jones and the transcribers for the IGI recorded the parents as A Smith and B Jones. Eventually his unit was stationed at Quebec City, where he married Mary Ann NUGENT in 1825. My GGF, William TELFORD was born in Quebec in 1826. When the Citadel construction was completed, his Company was returned to England. James elected to remain with his family in No America. They eventually settled in NY, where James died in 1853. I am searching for info on the parents and siblings of James in the Carlisle area. I suspect his father's name was likely William, from naming patterns. Will appreciate any info or comments. Thanks! 2. Hi, Recently added a name by marriage and was checking for it in the online 1881 census transcript at the FamilySearch site. Mary Trimble is supposed to have married a Dunn. Not sure this is them but the children's birthplaces fascinated me. I just always assumed you mined a lode till it gave out ; but I guess it was very much an on and off thing. 1. [CUL-CAR] MOSES WILSON

    3. This is my first posting to this list. Being a senior-newbie, excuse me if the request format is not in accordance with accepted practise. Moses is my wife's g grandfather. He was buried in Co. Armagh, Ireland, 6 Oct. 1936, age 69. Oral family history says he was from Whitehaven. In IGI I found a Moses Wilson. Christened 3 Mar 1867, in Arlecdon, Cumberland. Father shown as Thomas Wilson, Mother Jane. We know Moses father was Thomas. In IGI I found two marriage records for a Thomas Wilson and a Jane. Thomas Wilson/Jane Cowien. 12 May 1839. Thwaites, Cumberland. Thomas Wilson/Jane Graham. 21 Aug 1840. Saint John, Carrigill, Cumberland. I cannot find any other BMD data in IGI. How would I determine which, if any, of the two Thomas Wilson was Moses father? We do not know when Moses went to Ireland, if he went alone, or if the family went as well. Family rumour has it that Thomas was in the iron foundry business but others say he was a farmer. Not much to go on but any help would be appreciated. Roy Mississauga - Canada
