Hi Andrew, An unusual name BOLT and so I looked on my memorial database and found only two headstones. They do not answer your question, one is comparatively recent and is in Treleigh Churchyard (1977) and the other, inside Bodmin parish church, is rather old but has wording worth quoting : Here lieth the body of Mr. PETER BOLT, merchant, sometyme steward of ye Citye of Exceter, who departed this life in the feare of God, the 26th July, Ano. Domi. 1633; and also ye body of ELIZABETH his daughter, buried ye 14th of April, 1628. Which PETER BOLT had 2 wives and 13 children, 5 sonnes and 8 daughters. Seaventy six dozen moones and odd a Stewerdship I held of God, of wch when the account did call pale death me nothinge did appale because the judge (severe of late) is now become myne advocate; who having fully payd and prayd, both for my sinnes and savinge ayde, (sterne Justice and mild mercy meeting, and trueth and peace each other greeting.) guided my soul by heavenly love to rayne for aye with God above. J.W. writing in Western Antiquary, Vol 1, p.105, comments "This worthy man was one of the corporate body of Merchant adventurers, the arms of which are on the stone - Barry nebulée of six, argent and azure, a chef quarterly, gules and or, on the first and fourth quarters a lion passant gold, and on the second and third, two roses of the third, barbed, vert. it may be interesting to note that these arms are found on the brass commemorating John and Joan Greenway in Tiverton church, Devon 1529 ....." Regards, Mike, Redruth.
