    3. from The Chronicles of Celtic Customs, by Brian Day 16th April, St Magnus' Day CELTIC. St. Magnus was a 12th century Norwegian Jarl who was martyred in the Orkney Isles when murdered by order of his cousin Haakon. He met his death by having his head split apart with an axe. Kirkwall Cathedral is dedicated to him, and in 1919 a skeleton with a cleft skull was discovered there.
