Has anyone come across Ampillas as a Christian name? I have found Ampillas Hatley on the 1851 census index. Is this a bad transcription? Has anyone any idea? Many thanks, Heatha
There's a *Phillis* Hatley on the 1871 census, born Wood Ditton, aged 29 - perhaps this was Ann Phillis??? She married in 1875. Estelle >Has anyone come across Ampillas as a Christian name? I have found Ampillas >Hatley on the 1851 census index. Is this a bad transcription? Has anyone any >idea?
Dear Heatha, Ampillas does not appear in Yonge's Dictionary but I note that Mexico has a church 'Christos de las Ampillas' (Christ of the Blisters) - (one would have to be severe and over-religious to call a child that!), and down in South America Amarillas is popular.
