    3. I think it is nothing much apart from nice sea - fish - can't swim in it, tropical nasties would abound. There is now apparently a small hospital / medical centre (I think for day surgery things, otherwise off to Cairns) and a smallish supermarket, and the odd other shop. Mostly people drink, apparently! So there is at least one pub. Wonder if they came to Oz, didn't like it - and were on the way to or from when Mum went into labour at Thurs Island? There are the native people of course. But.. usually they went round the bottom of it, I think, following the "roaring forties". I don't suppose it is a misprint? Maybe you could chase the birth cert - from Qld probably, sorry don't know the address but they are NOT on line apart from perhaps an email address. If you put Queensland BDM or similar into google you should get something with the street address, anyway. Good luck !
