Dear Listers Over all our convicts records are pretty good Usually there is no problem in finding out what a person crime was that caused them to be transported to the other side of the World . Recently I struck a problem with some dispatched in April 1823 There were 4 young men all from Melbourn, CAM who were sentenced to 'life' 22 Jul 1822 at Cambridge Assize Their names : Edward SMITH .26 William HANSCOMBE 21 William COLLIS 23 John WHITBY 19 ( their ages in 1822) They were dispatched to the Colony of NSW in Apr 1823 on the transport ; Ocean 11(2) There were 4 other men from Cambridge on this same ship William BASSETT 30 7yrs John BUTLER 34 7yrs James FORDHAM 25 14yrs John ISSACSON 34 , Life Nearly 2 weeks ago I emailed the Cambridge CRO asking if they could help I dont know as to date I've had no response Have Cambridge Assize records 22 Jul 1822 survived ????
