Dear Rosemary, what a memory your mother has! The only Stott of a shopkeeping nature I could find in Cambridgeshire was STOTT, D. & J., Market Square, St. Neots, Cambridgeshire, booksellers and stationers, in 1838! There was also an Edwin STOTT of Newmarket who was an ironmonger and insurance agent in the High Street, Newmarket, 1883 St. Noets is within Cambridgeshire (just), about 18 miles due east of Cambridge itself. I had a quick look and there were no Waceys at all appearing in Cambridgeshire but plenty in Norfolk, in the University of Leicester's archive of Commercial Directories from 1750 to 1920, which, if they were shopkeepers, they ought to be in. Similarly, there are no Waceys listed in Cambridgeshire on the 1901 Census - but lots in Norfolk and some in Lincolnshire for instance. Hi David, Thanks for that. I have since found that Mum's grandfather, George WACEY was born in Norfolk. The STOTTs are now a famous business college in Australia (although better known here in the 1960s and 70s) I will begin chasing up your leads. Thanks again.
