    1. A CHAMBERS of Ashley mystery!
    2. Dear Listers, When The Times archives were available for free, I printed out a number of 'bits' of possible interest, including the following marriage which I have now transcribed: Newspaper Cutting (The Times) 16/1/1896: 'Marriages. BURSLEM: CHAMBERS. - On the 11th Jan., at St. Columba Church, Lennox-gardens, by the Rev. Donald McLEOD, D.D., John Godolphin BURSLEM, third son of the late G.J. BURSLEM, formerly Capt. 94th Regt., to Theodosia Eliza CHAMBERS, second daughter of the late Henry CHAMBERS, of Ashley, Cambridgeshire.' I am guessing that 'the late Henry CHAMBERS' referrred to was the one who was baptised at Ashley-cum-Silverley in 1828, the son of Henry CHAMBERS and Elizabeth MOORE, but I am mystified. Does anyone hear bells ringing? Yours, etc. Geoffrey Woollard in Cambridgeshire.

    3. I do see what you mean! As John Godolphin Burslem was born in India, perhaps (improbably) Theodosia was brought up there, even if she was (according to the 1901 census) born in Kensington? I'm trying to find an explanation for her apparent absence from 1871, 1881 and 1891.
