    3. Janice Aitkens raises a problem with John PETTIT/PETTET who mysteriously becomes John POULTER. Thinking sideways Janice, could John PETTIT/PETTET have been not only a butcher by trade, but also a poulterer ? I can imagine the enumerator getting to the end of the day & trying to interview John in the shop, between customers, saying, " Name & occupation ?" and John, also at the end of a strenuous day still busy cleaving meat on the block, responding, "Poulterer & Butcher", not having heard the first word. It's a thought ain't it ? Geoff Lewin BLAXALL Hextable, Kent, S.E. 3. Hi Geoff That could be, but then why has the children got the surname of Poulter yet some of the sons has Pettitt, I looked for a 2nd marriage for Julia to John Poulter from 186-1871 1 also try a death for a John Pettitt between those years as it on the census of 1861 there a John Pettitt Ag Lab yet 1871 a John Poulter Butcher so I think they are possible two different people but if so why no death even if Julia never married a 2nd time Regards Janice ----- Original Message ----- From: "Geoff Lewin BLAXALL" <Geoff-Blaxall@beeb.net> To: <ENG-CAMBRIDGESHIRE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, October 31, 2004 12:54 PM Subject: [ENG-CAMB] PETTIT/PETTET+POULTER > Janice Aitkens raises a problem with John PETTIT/PETTET who mysteriously > becomes John POULTER. > Thinking sideways Janice, could John PETTIT/PETTET have been not only a > butcher by trade, but also a poulterer ? > > I can imagine the enumerator getting to the end of the day & trying to > interview John in the shop, between customers, saying, " Name & occupation > ?" and John, also at the end of a strenuous day still busy cleaving meat > on the block, responding, "Poulterer & Butcher", not having heard the > first word. > > It's a thought ain't it ? > > Geoff Lewin BLAXALL > Hextable, Kent, S.E.
