Dear Gill, just as an aside, did you know of the Uffindell in my county (Hampshire) in 1890, one Charles F. Uffindell of 13 Hereford Road (North side), Southsea? As there are Uffindells in Cambridgeshire, Oxfordshire, Essex and London, it rather looks as though they made their way down the east side of England.
