    3. Mary, Essentially it means that although your ancestor was in the Peterborough Union Workhouse, the cost of her upkeep was paid by Thorney Parish. The most likely reason for this is that she came from Thorney - which if my memory serves me correct she should do. More information may be recorded in the Workhouse minute books at which will be at Northampton Records Office and possibly the Thorney Churchwarden's and or Parish Accounts which will be at Cambridge Records Office. County boundaries do not make life easy!
