    3. I note that in the 1841 census Index, they are indexed together as James Hagger, wife Biddy Hagger, Kitty Hagger, and John Nelson, so Kitty was using the Hagger name. The only John and/or Kitty/Catherine/Kate Nelson in Cambridge in the 1851 census Index are shown on the index below: NELSON John 64 Caxton Roll No. HO107/1758 Page 213A NELSON Catherine 22 Caxton Roll No. HO107/1758 Page 213B None of the Hagger/Haggars shown above are listed on the index for the 1851 census. I found John Nelson on the 1881 census. He was overseas (military maybe?) for many years. Two children born in India and one born in New Zealand, two youngest born in Chatham, Kent. It can most easily be read at www.familysearch.org . I have copied and pasted it below: Name Relation Marital Status Gender Age Birthplace Occupation Disability John NELSON Head M Male 54 Croyden, Cambridge, England Pensioner Margaret NELSON Wife M Female 49 Ireland Pensioners wife Henry NELSON Son U Male 26 India General Laborer George NELSON Son U Male 16 New Zealand Shipwrights Apprentice Mary Ann NELSON Daugh U Female 18 India Reuben NELSON Son U Male 13 Chatham, Kent, England Scholar Caroline NELSON Daugh U Female 10 Chatham, Kent, England Scholar Walter NYE Lodger U Male 27 London, Middlesex, England Plasterer Kate SIMMONDS Lodger U Female 22 Cliffe, Kent, England Laundress Elizabeth COPPIN Lodger U Female 27 Maidstone, Kent, England Laundress Alice GILBERT Lodger U Female 23 Devon, England Laundress Rachael WYBROW Lodger W Female 54 Chatham, Kent, England Charwoman Walter WYBROW Lodger U Male 13 Chatham, Kent, England Scholar George WYBROW Lodger U Male 21 Chatham, Kent, England Dock Laborer John WYBROW Lodger U Male 18 Chatham, Kent, England Dock Laborer ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- Source Information: Dwelling 7 Seaton Ct Census Place Chatham, Kent, England Family History Library Film 1341212 Public Records Office Reference RG11 Piece / Folio 0893 / 55 Page Number 12 I've been told that Biddy is sometimes a nickname for Bridget. I know that my great great grandfather was born Croydon cum clopton in 1828 and that his sister was born about 1832. They were John and Kitty Nelson. Their mother was Biddy Nelson (later Biddy Hagger). What I am trying to uncover is their father's name. Their mother was a Roman Catholic so I am wondering if her children were baptised as Catholics as well and if so was there a church nearby and would there still be records. Also I found Kitty in the 1841 census but do not have access to later census so I was wondering if anyone could look for her on the 1851 or 1861 - I would love to know what became of her. Thanks Dianne in Edmonton. ==== ENG-CAMBRIDGESHIRE Mailing List ==== .

    3. Hi Judy - yes the John Nelson you found in Chatham is indeed my man. He served in the 43rd light infantry having enlisted in Newsells Hertfordshire in about 1847. I am not at all sure what happended to his family but hopefully one day will be able to findout. it is interesting that there was a Catherine Nelson born in Catxton in about 1830 isn't it though I suspect not the one I am looking for. I am wondering however if her father John Nelson might have been an uncle to my John Nelson. Anyway thanks for the help Dianne -----Original Message----- From: Ken & Judy [mailto:kenjudydear@worldnet.att.net] Sent: Thursday, August 12, 2004 10:09 PM To: ENG-CAMBRIDGESHIRE-L@rootsweb.com Subject: RE: [ENG-CAMB] Nelson help needed I note that in the 1841 census Index, they are indexed together as James Hagger, wife Biddy Hagger, Kitty Hagger, and John Nelson, so Kitty was using the Hagger name.
