Hi Judy - yes the John Nelson you found in Chatham is indeed my man. He served in the 43rd light infantry having enlisted in Newsells Hertfordshire in about 1847. I am not at all sure what happended to his family but hopefully one day will be able to findout. it is interesting that there was a Catherine Nelson born in Catxton in about 1830 isn't it though I suspect not the one I am looking for. I am wondering however if her father John Nelson might have been an uncle to my John Nelson.
