    3. Hi, Listers ! I think that a lot of us would like to see the 1911 Census before January 1912. The URL for this Petition to the Prime Minister has already appeared on the Norfolk, Suffolk and Glamorgan Lists, and I hope that some more of you would like to join in ? Best Wishes, Roger. -------------- If you copy and paste the following link it'll lead you to a petition to the Prime Minister to reduce the classified period for census data from 100 years to 70 years. You must be a UK resident. Maybe, just maybe if enough people sign.... Please feel free to copy to other sites. _http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/CensusInfoFreed/_ (http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/CensusInfoFreed/) - -

See the National Archives article at http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/1911census/?homepage=news It appears that most of the census will be available from 2009. John B Leic., Eng

    3. Whilst the intentions of those producing the petition might be laudable, the petition itself might have attracted a better chance of success if it had been accurate. The 1931 census was completely destroyed by bombing during WWII so no amount of petitioning can get it released. In respect of the 1911, the National Archives has already announced that it hopes to release that census in early 2009 after the work required digitising it and producing indices [name and address] has been completed. Sensitive information [lunacy etc.] will be withheld until 2012. Given the vast amount of work involved, two years seems very reasonable. And, before anyone asks, there was no census in 1941! So this just leaves the 1921 census out of the three listed in the petition I have sent this reply only to the Cambridgeshire list and not cross posted to the lists of which I am not a member.
