Have you tried the surnames Elbourn and Elbourne? On the 1861 census index for Cambridge at www.cfns.org.uk there are three Edward Elbourn Perhaps sks could check out these spellings for you. The GRO indexes are free access on Ancestry.com - it does take a while to search them but just might fill in a bit on the husbands. Have you found a likely Edward Elborn in 1841-1861 censuses in England (and who do NOT appear in 1871, etc.)? It is very hard to find any record of people other than censuses and b-m-d records (or parish records prior to censuses and civil registration). In March 1855 Martha Vango married William Partridge in London, England. They were both still in London on 4th June 1862 but between then and 1870 I lose track of Martha and William. Next time I can locate her is approximately 1870. She has a daughter (Ellen) in New Zealand with an Edward Elborn. In 1873 she gives birth to my great great grandma Sarah Levinia Elborn in Hokitika, New Zealand (I have her birth certificate so I know this information to be true). Father given as Edward Elborn - Occupation Miner. She also goes on to have a son, William with Edward Elborn. Sometime between 1875-1880 Martha and 3 children return to London with out Edward and she remarries in 1881. I can trace Martha's family but have been searching for some time to try to trace Edward or information of their life together in England. Family stories indicate that Edward originated from Cambridgeshire, England. I do not know his birth date or any information about him except what has been handed down in family stories. I cannot find a record of them marrying in England so wondered if they got on a ship and married on board? I have searched as many records as I can find of passenger lists on the internet but have not found them. Otherwise they may have married in New Zealand although searches so far have not turned up anything? Does any one know of an ancestor called Edward Elborn who went to New Zealand in about 1860-70? I would be grateful if any body has any information on Edward Elborn or his life with Martha.
