A loss which, so far as we ourselves as neighbours and fellow parishioners are concerned, it is not too much to say is irreparable. For it is difficult, in these busy hurrying days, to find men endowed with such gifts as he possessed, and at the same time willing and able to devote them so unreservedly to the good of their fellow men as he did. That this he did whether in his own parish as churchwarden, as school manager, as honorary organist, as ever ready to help in any parochial scheme or work, or outside its boundaries, in the many offices which he so worthily filled, is known and acknowledged on all hands. Space does not permit us, nor if it did, would it be seemly here to say, what might be said of his work in the different relationships of his private life; only those who knew him intimately can appreciate to the full the void which he has left by his removal from amongst us. We miss the kindly genial friend, the gentle courteous master, the ever ready helper in all good works. Of the loss to those nearest and dearest to him, we venture not to speak. May their and our loss be his great gain. The wave of sympathy which passed over the whole neighbourhood was evidenced by the great number of men gathered from all parts, who were present when loving hands laid his body to rest, " in sure and certain hope of the ressurrection to eternal life", in Coldham Churchyard, on Tuesday Feb 4th. But on 10th Feb she had a change for the better, and made such progress in the way of amendment as to be able to go home on 25th feb for rest and change. We all hope that her ercovery may be rapid, so that she may soon take her place among us again. She has out sympathy and our prayers. His illness lasred for upward of five months; at one time it was thought that he might have sufficiently recovered so as to be seen once more amongst us, but God willed it otherwise; he was called to his rest on the morning of Thursday, Feb 20th. His familiar figure will be missed by all the inhabitants of the parish, and indeed the neighbourhood also, as he was well known throughout the district. The Funeral took place on Monday, Feb 24th, in the Church and Churchyard which he had served so long TYDD S.
