I am just getting back to my English research in Cambridgeshire and Southhampton, Hampshire (last 2005), so I thought I would bring those on these two list who might remember my last posts up to date with the latest research findings with regards to Arthur William BARRINGER, my grandmother's brother who was a 1st class saloon steward on the RMS Titanic, and his wife. FreeBMD-Marriages (1906, Jan-Feb-Mar quarter), show Arthur William BARRINGER married Ethel Isabel McKEAN in Southampton, Hampshire. Their children were Eric Roy and Dorothy Ethel. Ethel Isabel’s parents appear to be “McKEAN, Matthew” and “HILLIER, Ann” according to Marriage Register (1866, July-Aug-Sept quarter, Wadsworth, Volume 1d, page 839). They have at least 3 other girls according to 1881 census, and possibly sons who were not listed in the family unit. FamilySearch extracted birth records show “MATHEW MCKEAN” was born ”27 NOV 1839 in Stevenston, Ayr, Scotland” to ROBERT MCKEAN and AGNES CAMPBELL. (I have since found more information through FamilySearch regarding both Robert and Agnes.) FamilySearch extracted birth records show that wife “ANNE HILLIER” was born “10 JUN 1838 in Goodworth, Clatford, Hampshire” to a “WILLIAM HILLIER” and his wife “Anne” (surname not listed). (I have since found more information about William.) Various UK censuses confirm this information, though McKEAN is often spelled as “MacKEAN, and "Mathew" is often spelled as Matthew.
