This is my first posting on the Cambridgeshire list so I hope nothing I ask breaks any rules. I am trying to trace any descendants of a relative who, I am told, was a station master in Soham. I have googled the station and know it no longer exists! I also discovered that he was not station master during WWII, but obviously some time after. He was Frederick Shaw, born in London in 1911 and I have no idea how he came to be in the county of Cambridgeshire except for his work. He married in the 1930's and had children. If I have the correct person, he died in 1987 in Ely Registration District. Frederick ('Freddie') was my great-uncle, and there are few relatives I can ask now for information. I am stumped as to where to go next. Many thanks.
Hi Margaret, Do you have his birth cert order on line from http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/ ) which would give you his parents, then you could trace them back on the 1901, 1891 census on http://www.ancestry.co.uk/ and look up the BMD certs on www.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/search.pl Or am I teaching Grandma to suck eggs?!!
